Abstract

Sociology, the scientific study of society, social relationships, and institutions, plays a critical role in the development of social studies education in Nigeria. This paper explores the significance of sociology as a foundational pillar in the social studies curriculum as endorsed by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in Nigeria. The study examines the rationale behind integrating sociology into the social studies curriculum, its impact on teacher education, and its broader implications for Nigerian society.
