Abstract

This study examined the challenges, prospects, and strategies for integrating word processing into the Business Education curriculum in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The aim was to identify the key challenges lecturers face, explore the potential benefits of integrating word processing, and assess the strategies adopted by institutions to address these challenges. A descriptive survey design was used, with a sample of 121 respondents from one federal and two state tertiary institutions. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, and reliability analysis yielded a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.84. The findings indicated that the main challenges include inadequate technological resources, insufficient lecturer training, and limited institutional support. However, the prospects for integration were promising, as word processing was seen as essential for enhancing employability, promoting digital literacy, and improving professional business documentation skills. Strategies adopted by institutions included regular ICT training, upgrading infrastructure, and revising the curriculum. The study recommends enhanced investment in ICT infrastructure, continuous professional development for lecturers, and curriculum reforms to prioritize word processing skills in Business Education.
