Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is an innovative technological feat that is currently gaining wide usage. This study compares the extent to which AI is used by tertiary students in US and Nigeria. It relies on both primary and secondary data. Survey design and mixed method are employed. The plausible associated methods are employed for data analysis. The analysis shows a disparity between the extent to which tertiary students in US and Nigeria use AI and the level of their awareness about AI. While the use of AI among tertiary students in the US is currently high but not very high, Nigerian students’ use of it is currently very low. Besides, US students have very high level of awareness about AI, whereas Nigerian students have a very low level of awareness about AI. The findings have policy implications, as regard the imperative of increasing the awareness about AI and the extent of its usage among tertiary students, particularly those in Nigeria and the like other nations. The study concludes that following the prospects of AI, which are proven to outweigh the challenges, stakeholders have to ensure increased awareness about AI in totality in order to increase the extent of its usage among students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, the US and other nations.
