Abstract

The objectives of this paper are to explore the most common constructs that influence the effects of deterrence and regulatory influence on financial crimes. The sample size of 399 was statistically obtained using the Taro Yamane formula. Questionnaires were used to collect data from respondents by a purposive simple random sampling method with a valid response of 307. SPSS version 20 was used for the descriptive statistics.  Multiple regression technique was used to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that deterrence and regulatory influence have significant relationship with financial crimes.  Consequently, the laws of federal republic of Nigeria should be amended to support deterrence measures, by that the persistent increase in economic and financial crimes can be significantly reduced.
