Abstract

The article aims to examine the effect of terrorism on national development. To achieve this, we analyzed the social consequences of terrorism in Nigeria, and evaluated the effectiveness of counter-terrorism measures, including military operations, intelligence, and community-based initiatives. Relying on both primary and secondary sources of information, the paper found that: preventive measures, including countering the financing of terrorism, enhancing border control, and strengthening legal frameworks, have indeed been effective in addressing the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria. The study recommended that, future research should focus on long-term economic impacts, including infrastructure loss, human capital depletion, and livelihood effects in affected regions, which can inform post-conflict recovery strategies.
