Abstract
The paper focused on guidance counsellors application of behaviour modification therapy to curb students examination malpractice in secondary schools in Gwagwalada Area Council Abuja. The researcher set and formulated two research objectives and two research hypotheses respectively for the study. She used experimental research design for the study. The population of the study was eleven pubic senior secondary schools while the students were eighty. The researcher sampled two senior secondary schools and forty students through random sampling technique. The two senior secondary schools were designated A and B. Senior secondary school A has both control and experimental groups with ten students in each group totaling twenty students. Senior secondary school B also has both control and experimental groups with ten students in each group. All the students in the senior secondary schools A and B with their control and experimental groups were forty. T-test was used to test the hypotheses, the t-test highest score was considered the accepted score when considering the results. The findings of the study showed that the students who participated in behaviour modification therapy behaved well in English language examination without involving in examination malpractice than their counterparts who were not trained in behaviour modification therapy. Also the students who were trained using behaviour modification therapy performed well in their academics than their counterparts who did not take part in it. Based on the findings the researcher recommended that the secondary school management should ensure that seminars, conferences are conducted on behaviour modification therapy for guidance counselling teachers to avail themselves so as to be able to train the students to resist from examination malpractice.
